Representative Jim Boyd & Chief Judge Charles E. Williams

Representative Jim Boyd received the Chief Judge's Award for Exceptional Service

At the May 30th Manatee County Bar Association meeting, Representative Jim Boyd was presented the Chief Judge's Award for exceptional service to the judiciary and the State of Florida by Chief Judge Charles Williams. Jim Boyd was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives on November 2, 2010, and quickly rose in leadership. Judge Williams attributes that advancement to Jim's personality and ability to work with everyone. For the entire 8 years he has been in the house, he has been supportive of the judiciary and its programs and specialty courts.

In the past two years, Jim sponsored two important bills addressing the opioid crisis in Florida. Both bills demonstrate his continued support and understanding of the challenges faced by the Courts and the Justice System in Florida. House Bill 477 dealt with adding certain drugs and synthetic drugs to the controlled substance statute and addressed sentencing for dealers. House Bill 21 dealt with restricting the prescription of certain drugs by doctors and pharmacists.
