Immediately (open until filled)
$240 flat fee per day, paid by Sarasota County Schools. Contractors do not accrue holiday or vacation leave or credits in FRS.
All applicants are encouraged to read the un-numbered section of the Code of Judicial Conduct titled “Application of the Code of Judicial Conduct” which provides that anyone who performs judicial functions, including a hearing officer, commissioner, or a general magistrate, shall comply with Canons 1, 2A, and 3, and such other provisions of the Code that might reasonably be applicable. Applicants should also be familiar with the Opinions of the Judicial Ethics Advisory Committee.
The Truancy Magistrate supports the juvenile division judge by conducting hearings on truancy cases, making determinations, and preparing recommended orders. This part-time position requires two days per month and offers administrative support from Sarasota County Schools. Hearings can be in-person, on Zoom, or both. Candidates need computer proficiency, Microsoft Word skills, and attention to detail.
This position requires knowledge of the legal system; juvenile court processes and procedures.
Juris doctorate from an accredited law school required. At least five years of experience in the practice of law, including one year in family or juvenile law. Requires membership in good standing in the Florida Bar.
