The Twelfth Judicial Circuit is accepting applications for a Pretrial Services Caseworker II vacancy in Sarasota County. This is responsible professional work in pretrial investigations, case management, and counseling and social service referrals for the Sarasota County Government Pretrial Services Program. The position is in the Intake Unit on the night shift. The Intake Unit is a 24-hour operation, with two 12-hour shifts. Working nights, weekends and holidays are part of this position, which includes a 6% shift differential for working nights once training is completed.

A few of your daily responsibilities:

  • Interview defendants with regard to demographics and community ties; verifies defendant information; and conducts victim interviews;
  • prepares local criminal histories as well as Florida and National criminal histories; 
  • conduct mental health and substance abuse assessments;
  • complies, organizes and maintains daily records; 
  • update case management system;
  • instruct clients on matters pertaining to the conditions of pretrial release and any restrictions or assigned programs; 
  • write reports for the Court for the purposes of First Appearances; and
  • attend First Appearance and other court hearings.

  • Effective and concise written and oral communication;
  • knowledge of investigative and fact-gathering and screening techniques;
  • ability to observe, interpret, assess and record behavioral events;
  • ability to organize and prioritize work;
  • ability to maintain effective working relationships with others and foster teamwork; 
  • ability to take effective action and exercise sound judgment in emergency or crisis situations; and;
  • ability to interact with individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

Education

A BA/BS from an accredited college or university with a major in criminal justice, social or behavioral science or related field. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the degree. You must obtain certification by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) as a Florida Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center (FCIC/NCIC) operator within six (6) months of appointment.
