Pretrial Services Caseworker II (Supervision Unit)

The Twelfth Judicial Circuit is accepting applications for a Pretrial Services Caseworker vacancy in Sarasota County. The position is in the Supervision Unit at 1751 Mound Street. This is responsible professional work in pretrial investigations, case management, and counseling and social service referrals for the Sarasota County Government Pretrial Services Program.

A few of your daily responsibilities:

  • Supervises defendants/clients placed on Supervised Pretrial Release (SPR) in accordance with court ordered conditions and department policies;
  • monitors compliance and progress with conditions of pretrial release including court appearances, drug and/or alcohol testing, etc.; 
  • maintains regular contact through face to face office visits, remote check-ins, and telephone call check-ins as required;
  • identifies community resources and provide clients with referrals;
  • initiatesSupervised Release revocations for clients who fail to comply with release conditions; 
  • maintains accurate and complete case files;
  • prepares statistical reports; and
  • attends court hearings.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Knowledge of basic interviewing and screening techniques;
  • basic record keeping and reporting writing principles and practices; 
  • effective and concise written and oral communication;
  • knowledge of investigative and fact-gathering techniques;
  • ability to observe, interpret, assess and record behavioral events;
  • ability to organize and prioritize work;
  • ability to take effective action and exercise sound judgment in emergency or crisis situations; and
  • ability to interact with individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

Education

A BA/BS from an accredited college or university with a major in criminal justice, social or behavioral science or related field. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required college degree. You must obtain certification by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) as a Florida Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center (FCIC/NCIC) operator within six (6) months of appointment and keep CJIS Certification current.
