Pretrial Services Intake Unit Supervisor

$28.34/hour ($58,947.20/year) plus Sarasota County Government benefits.

The Twelfth Judicial Circuit is accepting applications for a Pretrial Services Intake Unit Supervisor in Sarasota County. The position is in the Intake Unit in the Sarasota Judicial Center. The Intake Unit is a 24-hour operation. Working nights, weekends and holidays are part of this position. Responsibilities include planning, coordinating, and managing unit operations; supervising staff; and supporting data-driven decision-making. The role provides technical and analytical expertise in policy development, program implementation, and performance measurement, while ensuring alignment with statutory requirements and operational goals. 

A few of your daily responsibilities:

  • Plans, assigns, supervises, and evaluates the work of Pretrial Services Case Officers within the Intake Unit;
  • Establishes performance standards, monitors employee progress, and ensures timely completion of evaluations and performance plans; 
  • Reviews staff-prepared reports submitted to the judiciary to ensure accuracy, quality, and consistency;
  • Participates in recruitment, selection, and onboarding of staff;
  • Evaluates program operations for compliance and efficiency, identifying and addressing operational issues and opportunities for enhancement within the Intake Unit and related Pretrial Services programs;
  • Interprets, develops and applies policies and procedures in accordance with Florida Statutes, program objectives, and national best practices.
  • Monitors legislative changes and emerging trends, incorporating evidence-based practices to improve program effectiveness;
  • Serves as the court’s FCIC Agency Coordinator (FAC), ensuring compliance with FBI and FDLE Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) security policies;
  • Collaborates with judiciary, State Attorney’s Office, Public Defender’s Office, Sheriff’s Office, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance and effective service delivery;
  • Represents the department at court and community meetings, including reporting on program data and operations.
  • Coordinates Pretrial Services efforts through regular communication and collaboration with the Pretrial Services Director, Court Administration, and the judiciary; and
  • Performs duties of case officers and administrative staff as needed to support operational demands. Serves in a leadership capacity in the absence of the Pretrial Service Director, including operational oversight and decision-making.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Knowledge of applicable laws, codes and regulations as they relate to employees;
  • knowledge of community resources, and state and federal agencies that provide social services and family support; 
  • knowledge of advanced courtroom procedures, practices and demeanor;
  • knowledge of advanced interviewing, counseling, screening and investigative and fact-gathering techniques;
  • knowledge of basic safety practices related to work;
  • knowledge of advanced record keeping and report writing principles and practices;
  • knowledge of advanced psychological theories and behavior modification methods and practices, including behavioral interviewing; principles, theories and practices of the criminal justice system;
  • knowledge of advanced principles and techniques for making effective oral and written presentations;
  • skill in interpreting, applying and explaining applicable laws codes and regulations as they relate to employees; and preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence and other written materials; 
  • ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others and foster teamwork investigative and fact-gathering techniques;
  • ability to interact successfully with individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds in person and over the telephone, often where relations may be confrontational or strained; 
  • ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing to staff and management; and
  • ability to uphold high professional standards, accuracy, reliability and consistent growth within the local criminal justice system.

Education

A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Public Administration, Business, Finance, Industrial/Engineering Technology, or job-related field and two (2) years job-related experience -OR- Six (6) years professional job-related experience can be substituted at management discretion for the required education. -OR- Related professional program/project management may substitute for the required education at management discretion. Become CJIS Certified/keep CJIS Certification current. Required to obtain/maintain DJJ certification to screen arrested youth.
