The Twelfth Judicial Circuit is accepting applications for a Pretrial Services Supervision Unit Supervisor in Sarasota County. The position is in the Supervision Unit at 1751 Mound Street. This is responsible professional work providing analytical and supervisory support for the Sarasota County Government Pretrial Services Program. The role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing unit operations, including the analysis of program data, implementation of evidence-based practices, and evaluation of outcomes related to court appearance, public safety, and compliance with court-ordered conditions. The position supports informed decision-making by court administration and the judiciary and ensures program operations align with statutory requirements, court directives, and organizational goals. 

A few of your responsibilities:

  • Plans, assigns, supervises and evaluates the work of Pretrial Services staff, including caseworkers and administrative personnel;
  • monitors performance of staff and supports staff development and training; 
  • participates in recruitment, selection, and onboarding of staff;
  • completes regular case audits, timely review of opening/closing of cases and revocations; 
  • provides guidance and intervention in escalated client matters;
  • monitors and analyzes program data and identifies trends in the criminal justice system to make program improvements and enhancements; 
  • develops, implements and evaluates evidence-based practices and ensures program compliance with applicable standards and directives;
  • facilitates internal and external trainings; 
  • serves as the court’s back-up FCIC Agency Coordinator (FAC);
  • collaborates with staff and justice partners to maintain community collaboration and partnerships;
  • maintains a limited caseload to ensure continuity of services; and
  • serves in a leadership capacity in the absence of the Pretrial Services director.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Knowledge of applicable laws, codes and regulations as they relate to employees, community resources, and state and federal agencies;
  • knowledge of courtroom procedures, practices and demeanor; 
  • knowledge of advanced interviewing, counseling, screening and investigative and fact-gathering techniques; 
  • knowledge of basic safety practices related to work; 
  • knowledge of advanced record keeping and report writing principles and practices; advanced psychological theories and behavior modification methods and practices, including behavioral interviewing;
  • knowledge of principles, theories and practices of the criminal justice system; advanced courtroom procedures, practices and demeanor; advanced principles and techniques for making effective oral and written presentations;
  • skill in interpreting, applying and explaining applicable laws codes and regulations as they relate to employees; and preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence and other written materials;
  • effective and concise written and oral communication;
  • ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others and foster teamwork;
  • ability to interact successfully with individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds in person and over the telephone, often where relations may be confrontational or strained; and
  • ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing to staff and management; ability to uphold high professional standards, accuracy, reliability and consistent growth within the local criminal justice system.

Education

A BA/BS from an accredited college or university with a major in Public Administration, Business, Finance, Industrial/Engineering Technology, or job-related field and two (2) years job-related experience OR six (6) years professional job-related experience can be substituted at management discretion for the required education OR related professional program/project management may substitute for the required education at management discretion. You must obtain certification by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) as a Florida Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center (FCIC/NCIC) operator within six (6) months of appointment. Keep CJIS Certification current.
