The Twelfth Judicial Circuit has an opening for an Administrative Specialist III position, working with the Citizen Dispute Settlement Program (CDSP) in Sarasota. The primary focus of this position is providing major administrative functions for the court and the CDSP. This position will be responsible for working with volunteer mediators and court participants, managing case files, compiling statistics, assisting judges as necessary, public speaking to promote court programs, providing continuing education and special programs for volunteers. The position requires a good working relationship with judges, court personnel, volunteer mediators, referral sources, attorneys, clerk’s office employees and the public. The employee must become a Florida Supreme Court certified county mediator and Florida Supreme Court certified assistant trainer within one (1) year of hire.

Job

A few of your daily responsibilities:

  • Schedule and coordinate pre-filing mediation for the CDSP and oversee volunteer mediators;
  • Analyze documents such as contracts to ensure comprehension of issues in dispute and communicate with parties regarding the dispute to obtain voluntary participation in CDSP;
  • Oversee volunteer mediators and facilitate small claims county court proceedings; arrange volunteers to mediate the cases to resolution;
  • Mediate county cases, prepare/draft settlement agreements, court orders or impasse reports on all cases mediated; 
  • Perform administrative functions including data reporting, present trainings to volunteer mediators, assist with program outreach including speaking to groups about the program and assisting the South County Program Director as needed.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Effective and concise written and oral communication;
  • ability to organize and prioritize work;
  • working knowledge of the judicial system and court procedures;
  • ability to use basic office equipment;
  • ability to take effective action and exercise sound judgment; and
  • ability to interact with individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

Education

Associates degree from an accredited college or university with 4-6 years of clerical or administrative experience. Additional experience may substitute for formal education at discretion of management. Must become Florida Supreme Court certified as a county mediator and assistant trainer within one (1) year of hire.
