E pluribus unum
Out of many, one

Congress sanctioned the first official Law Day celebration on May 1, 1961, as a way to celebrate the rule of law and reflect on the rights and liberties it affords all Americans. The American Bar Association explains that this year’s Law Day theme — The Constitution's Promise: Out of Many, One — “enshrines our collective responsibility to one another” through the Constitution and reminds us that, “We, the people,” whether through legislative efforts that serve the common good, through military service, or by working together every day fulfill the promise of E pluribus unum, “Out of many, one.”

We asked legal professionals what the rule of law means to them, how lawyers protect individual rights in our community, and what citizens can do to fulfill the promise of “E pluribus unum,” out of many, one.
