Encouraging leadership through service to community

Part of a judge’s role as a community leader is to engage with its members. Circuit Judge Edward Nicholas is the Student Leadership Program chair for the Bradenton Kiwanis Club. As chair, Judge Nicholas oversees the community service efforts within local schools. “We sponsor 12 K Kids Clubs at various elementary schools, six Builders Clubs in some of our middle schools, four Key Clubs (at the high school level), Circle K International (CKI) at the college level and a group called the Aktion Club, for students with disabilities.”

Shortly after the beginning of a new school year, Judge Nicholas participates in Induction Ceremonies at each school. “After we recite the pledge, I welcome the students into the club, and into the overall Kiwanis family.”

K Kids Clubs, Builders Club and Key Clubs offers students a chance to lead and contribute to their community through service by choosing interests and setting goals in an age-appropriate setting.
