Job

The Twelfth Judicial Circuit has an opening for a Family Court Coordinator to work in Sarasota County. This is professional work assisting the family court judges and Case Management Program Coordinator with case management duties. Position supervises the Domestic Violence Coordinator, is the family division liaison, provides case management for family cases, domestic violence facilitation, and Zoom administrative support to the case management hearing dockets. This position’s responsibilities require case management skills, reviewing family division cases and related case searches; drafting orders; keeping statistics; setting and attending hearings; and working closely with the family judges, case managers, and other court personnel. Reports to the Case Management Program Coordinator (State of Florida position). Travel to other courthouse locations in the circuit may be required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reviewing pleadings and court files in family law and domestic violence cases;
  • Generate appropriate case management orders;
  • Facilitate all Zoom Case Management Hearings;
  • Draft correspondence and Orders;
  • Maintain statistics;
  • Perform related case searches and criminal background checks;
  • Schedule and attend Case Management Hearings;
  • Perform domestic violence hearing facilitations;
  • Perform Zoom Case Management functions, including controlling the Zoom waiting room, renaming participants, etc. for all case management hearings.
  • Supervise Domestic Violence Coordinator and assist when needed;
  • Act as Family Division liaison with OSCA and share information with Circuit staff.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  •       Effective and concise written and oral communication;
  • knowledge of family court processes and practices;
  • experience with the State of Florida eFiling Portal is helpful;
  • ability to understand case management limitations and what constitutes the unauthorized practice of law;
  • organizational/time management skills;
  • ability to manage and organize a complex, high-energy, high-volume environment;
  • ability to meet deadlines;
  • ability to address difficult, emotionally charged situations and issues professionally and tactfully;
  • ability to use sound judgment;
  • ability to collect and analyze data;
  • ability to prioritize and organize workload;
  • maintain confidentiality concerning sensitive issues before the court;
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with judiciary court personnel, outside agencies, mental health and legal professionals, unrepresented litigants, community agencies and the general public; and
  • the ability to obtain and maintain NCIC/FCIC certification upon employment (training and certification provided in-house). 

Education

Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with three years job-related experience or a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in job-related field; one year of job-related experience preferred. Five years of professional related experience can be substituted for the degree at management discretion. Previous supervision experience is preferred.
