This is a managerial position focused on the technical overall operations of the treatment court labs of the Twelfth Judicial Circuit. The position requires a strong commitment to service and integrity. The person serving in this position reports directly to the Criminal Programs Manager. The Lab Supervisor is responsible for overseeing lab policies and procedures and supervising all lab technicians within the circuit. This position monitors lab budgets, trains staff, orders supplies, generates reports, and responds to requests for information related to the labs. Treatment court labs are independent of the programs they serve and therefore are expected to work diligently and independently.

Job

  • Ensures all lab policies and procedures are carried out in compliance with standards and best practices, including all activities related to consistent specimen collection, testing, analyzing, recording, publishing and interpreting test results for illicit drugs and alcohol. Updates policies and procedures and trains lab technicians as needed. Researches and monitors trends in drug testing and lab operations, as well as internal trends within treatment court lab.
  • Oversees three labs and all urinalysis operations for the courts in the Twelfth Judicial Circuit. Supervises six (6) lab personnel in Sarasota and Manatee Counties. Works with lab technicians, county staff, and vendors to ensure lab equipment is safely maintained, tested, calibrated, and operated in compliance with vendor requirements. Trains, coaches and mentors lab technicians. Assists with hiring. Responsible for performance reviews.
  • Maintains accurate records on testing. Prepares reports and responds to requests for information. Attends court hearings as needed and responds to information as requested by authorized court/treatment personnel.
  • Fills in for lab technicians as needed, including monitoring urinalyses, operating equipment, and reporting results.
  • Responsible for maintaining and safekeeping of an inventory system and ordering new supplies and equipment when necessary.  Works directly with purchasing department to procure all necessary items for labs.
  • Interacts with program clients, the general public and other public/private sector stakeholders. Educates treatment court staff and judiciary on role of the lab, conducts presentations as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Trial Court Administrator.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in criminology, toxicology, or another related field.  Two or more years of supervisory experience required. Prior lab experience or experience in a medical field is desired.
